Angels and Demons

This is our comment area for Angels and Demons. Lets start by calling for a NO spoiler alert until after May 14th. Without giving away too much here are a few questions to get us started.

For those who read The Da Vinci Code was Angels and demons better in your mind? Why, Why not?

Taking into account that Angels and demons was written before the Code, has your opinion of Robert Langdon changed? Does he seem like the same character?

This book says a lot about the Catholic Church and the Pope and the Vatican, has your opinion of any of these changed as you read the novel.

Do you like our heroine?

Does anyone else want to visit a super-collider now?

  1. I actually read the two out of order. First, I read Da Vinci Code - loved it! - and THEN I read Angels & Demons. IDK, it was a little weird reading them out of order. I kept expecting Sophie to show up in A&D, and I felt that the Robert in Da Vinci was different from the Robert in Demons.

  2. I read them in the correct order and thought of Robert as a bit of a womanizer. A new girl that he seems to fall madly in love with in each book, what is that? Poor writing if you ask me. However, I liked the story in A&D and since I have been lucky enough to have visited Rome I liked all of the descriptions of the buildings and fountains and statues, it was really cool to take the A&D tour (Shannon, my wife, and I walked around from the Vatican to most of the places in the book, following the path led by Langdon.

  3. I feel that all of Dan Brown's books are all the same. I've read The Code, Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress and Ooh the one about finding something in the arctic (i'll look it up and get back to you, you being the blog man)anyway i feel that i read the sam bookk 4 times. I feel that his books are so unpredictably predictable that once you read one you can figure out every other one you read.
Now, more specifically about Angels and Demons. I love all the research that goes into the writings of his books however like i said above, i read The Code first and i feel like it was the same book with little changes. I don't feel as if one is better than the other.
Te whole Catholic and Vatican references were really cool and i loved all the research that went into the book. When we went to Italy with the book club a while back we got to see all the places that were mentioned in the book and kept pointing from the windows f the Bus and proclaiming..."Ahhh so-and-so was murdered there!" That was a blast.
I wonderr how many people besides Apples are actually going to read this far into my post it got a little legnthy. oops
In conclusion< i hate it when people start conclusion that way so i did it, i like Dan Brown's system and it made for a great Angel and Demons and the sequel however i feel he needs to branch out cuz the others were just a little boring. And the only thing that kept me going to the next page was the fact that i wanted to see if my prediction was right and sadly it was 95% of the time.

  4. I read the books in the correct order and I have to agree with Apples, Jerry, Josh. I really liked A@D, but the D-code was very similiar. However, I did like all of the research that goes into the novels. So atleast they are not completely silly. (although, the helicopter scene in A@D was a little bit far-fetched) I also did not like it how Robert seemingly forgot about what's her name from A@D. It made the character seem less likeable. However, I am really looking forward to seeing the movie!
